Start the day with a scenic morning flight from Cairns to Cooktown over the same waters that Captain Cook sailed through in 1770. Marvel at the views of the Coral Sea, catch glimpses of the Great Barrier Reef, rugged coastline, World Heritage rainforest and mountains.

Arrive in Cooktown after a short flight and your driver-guide will meet you at the Airport. The first stop is Grassy Hill Lookout; offering panoramic views of Cooktown, the Endeavour River and the Coral Sea. Then enjoy a guided walk of the esplanade and its many points of interest before free time to explore yourself.

After free time for yourself, meet your driver-guide at the designated time to further explore this historic town. Visit the Heritage Listed Cooktown Cemetery, the James Cook Museum and Cooktown's Botanic Gardens which opened in 1878.

Relax and enjoy lunch at Nature's Powerhouse and browse the art gallery and Visitor Information Centre.

Pass By: Black Mountain National Park, Queensland Australia

Depart Cooktown for the journey home travelling via the Mulligan Highway through the outback. Stop briefly at Black Mountain, Byerstown Range Lookout and the Palmer River Roadhouse. The outback landscape is dotted with termite mounds and various eucalypt species. Keep an eye out for livestock that graze along the roadside before we return you to your accommodation.

This score is a compromise one. The great things were the flight up in early morning , and the friendliness and enthusiasm of our guide Bridget who provided a very informative and personal tour of Cooktown and its sights and left us in a good mood after lunch at the Lions Den Hotel. The disappointing aspect was the interaction and then non-interaction with the company's Customer Service Manager (CSM). We booked the tour six weeks previously but at 5pm the day before we were told that instead of returning on Mulligan Highway , we would be returning via Bloomfield Track and Cape Tribulation, because the two-day tour had come up the Mulligan in reverse of their schedule - apparently relating to ease of traversing the Bloomfield southward following past rain. As we had already been to Cape Tribulation and on the Bloomfield Track, but not the Mulligan, we requested that our arrangements remain. The CSM refused to adhere to our contracted itinerary , and after further discussion, she put us on a shuttle bus service (run by another company), which meant we missed out on some stops on our itinerary.. The CSM would not confirm in writing as requested and very disappointingly did not try to contact us that evening or the next day to see if we arrived in Cairns safely. In summary, a great time in Cooktown and disappointing customer service.
