We signed up for the Guildford tour followed by 2x wineries, the chocolate, and the River Cruise back to Perth. I don’t recommend the Guildford tour on Monday or Tuesday (when we went) because many stores are closed. Still, it’s a quaint town. Our tour went to two wineries, one quite fancy, the other quite earthy, both very good. They were generous with the tasting and we had a lovely cheese plate at the second one. Then, chocolate insanity at Providore. Finally, and the best part, was the leisurely Swan River boat trip back to Perth. Two words: open bar. Two more words: great singer. Two final words: much fun. This thing was a tad touristy and cheesy, but it was a perfect good time.
A wonderful experience from start to finish. Our guide was knowledgeable and professional, ensuring we were enjoying our experience at every stop. The wine was free flowing, so much so that we could not indulge as we cruised the beautiful Swan river back to Perth. Tea and coffee was most welcomed though at this stage.
Had a great day today. We did the boat trip both ways and found Captain Matt, Bec, and Michelle were all fantastic, friendly, and provided the best customer service...... only gripe was that we all felt that Bec should have sung for longer on our way back, as she was that good!!! Our lunch was nice but the attitude of the waiting staff at Mandoon was poor.... definitely needing a personality transplant. After speaking to others on the tour, we would recommend doing the boat cruise each way!!
This is a good way to spend a day in Perth. Left at 9:45 from Perth train station corner of Wellington st and William st and returned to Elizabeth quay about 5pm. We had spent a few days in margaret river including a similar organised tour a few days before this and have to admit if you’re based in Perth, this is so much easier. Many of the wineries in swan river grow their grapes or have some brought up from margaret river anyway so you end up trying some from MR on this tour. And only a 30 min drive from Perth. Peter the driver was super friendly and good sense of humour, and so helpful with everything. We went to Sandalford wines (some sweet wine options too, and cheese and jatz provided), Mandoon estate (which became our sort of base, we could’ve walked to it was literally next door). Homestead brewery was in the same complex as Mandoon estate but unlike other reviews here we didn’t have lunch at the brewery as expected, but at a far more upmarket dining room next to their Wild Swan fine dining restaurant. We suspect this was because it was a Saturday and the brewery was busy. Lunch options were: Chicken with beans, peppers and other such Crispy skinned barramundi with potato rosti type thing and cabbage (we had) Beet salad (not sure what else was in this). Glass of red, white, lager or soft drink was included. The Barra was delicious and well cooked. Fine dining sized meals so not huge, but a nice light lunch. Then went to Lancaster wines (very noisy and busy but a welcome big cheese platter). Although we’d been on a small group tour (10 people) up until that point, another tour joined us on the bus so we ended up with about 24 people sharing the cheese. Margaret river chocolate company you not only get the public samples but a truffle each and Peter was great - he’s able to dive in behind the counter and start serving to save time and then dug up some more samples for us of nougat and other things. Also in this stop was Providore who had more wine (we missed) and chocolate liqueurs which were delicious and they also have olive oil, chutneys etc for tasting by the public. The Captain Cook cruise back to Perth was nice. Back to Mandoon estate to catch the boat. Being a spring Saturday there were a couple of spring weddings we got to see along the banks of the swan. And free coffee and tea and cake and fruit at first, then open bar for the rest of the trip (red, white and sparkling - didn’t seem to be from wineries we’d visited or even swan valley so there’s an opportunity). Lauren from the crew started singing about 30 mins before arrival in Perth and as others have said has an amazing voice. All in all a good day out!
We caught the bus at Guildford and went to two wineries for wine tasting , then lunch at Homestead brewery , then to another winery , chocolate tasting and then the wine cruise back to Perth. We met some lovely people in the group and tasted some gorgeous wines. We had cheese tasting at two of them and cakes and drinks on the boat . It was good value with nibbles , wine , chocolate and lunch
